    MA2500D Availability

    in Everything for MoCA

Going to order very soon. If the MA2500D is going to be released within the next few weeks, I would probably wait. Any update on availability?

Looks like GoCoax was busy working with Frontier to rebrand its 1st gen adapter:

Now that it's done, what's the ETA on the the 2nd gen?

This product (WF-803FT) looks identical to the custom adapters employed by Frontier for MoCA WAN connections, the Frontier FCA251.

The posted Quick Start documentation is especially interesting as it’s the first scrap of information I’ve seen detailing the resulting settings from the WAN/LAN/FULL toggle switch. Critically, the Quick Start details ...

    WAN (1475-1675 MHz); 2x 100 MHz

    LAN (1025-1350 MHz); 3x 100 MHz

    FULL (1125-1675 MHz); 5x 100 MHz

... contradict the approach described in the online FAQ on the subject ...

    >>> We know that, many MSO use D-band low 1125MHz to 1225MHz to act as MoCA WAN. You can change our device to use D-band high only, from 1350MHz to 1675MHz, can build a 3-channels connection. <<<

... and, worryingly, appear to violate the MoCA spec as regards the “LAN” setting (1025 MHz < 1125 MHz), dipping down into MoCA Band C for some additional spectrum.

Aside from violating the MoCA spec, it’s puzzling that goCoax opted to do so for the “LAN” configuration, since this non-standard setting would preclude use of any retail MoCA adapters in conjunction with a “LAN”-configured WF-803FT. It would have made more sense to apply this violation to the WAN setting/connection, with the WAN operating at the lower frequency range, since the MoCA WAN would be established with just 2 WF-803FT units only, leaving the MoCA LAN operating at the standard D-High range, and accessible by any standard-conforming retail MoCA 2.5 adapter (manually configured to operate at D-High).

    e.g.

    WAN (1025-1225 MHz); 2x 100 MHz

    LAN (1350-1675 MHz); 3x 100 MHz

Or maybe somebody just got the documentation wrong. (I mean... they do repeatedly refer to channels as "bounded," so fingers crossed.)

@ploog Yup, it's the same product, and it's obvious it's a GoCoax adapter, with a slight tweak to manually select the frequency band (shell, and product identifier are essentially the same as WF-803M).

I decided to buy the current version and installed today. One of my mesh nodes was just not performing with 5G backhaul and installing Ethernet to that part of the house would have been difficult. Configured with DHCP active, connected without issue and doubled my mesh node speed. As long as these devices are stable I am extremely happy. As long as u take care with splitters, this was a piece of cake

Hopefully the disappearance of @goCoax from this forum over the last week+ is a symptom of an all-hands-on-deck effort to get the new adapter released.

    Hi gctnj,

I am curious about what do you do with 2.5Gbps throughput? Do you do large file transfers on the LAN, or you have multigigabit broadband subscription?

I am looking to use it to connect a distant room to a NAS server. The connection to the NAS will be used for general network file storage, backup and holding files used for video editing -- some of these being simultaneous with video conferencing.

@warpdag What is the known PHY bug? You mean on your Aquantia chips? Maybe consider a USB 3.0 to 2.5G dongle instead.

If it cannot achieve 2500Mbps with Actiontec's ECB7250, goCoax MA2500D should make no difference. They use the same MoCA chip MxL3710, but maybe different Ethernet chips though.

@J. C. There is a known bug with certain intel 2.5g ethernet controllers where attempting to link at 2.5 Gbps drops your link speed to *very* low levels. This will get you started: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/support-hardware/Intel-i225-V-and-Z490-Chipset---Network-Connection-Issues-1981/

Someone on reddit had issues with their Actiontec 7250 and Aquantia, so they took apart the Actiontec and reported that they found one of the affected chips on the board. For more info and the pics, see https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/comments/ity6cl/is_there_any_moca_25_adapter_with_a_25_gb/ghrahyd/

I have been wondering if part of the delay in shipping the 2.5g gocoax adapters is that there is a limited supply of intel's fixed version of the chips.
